A Costus afer B Palisota hirsuta AW: Anticlinal wall; ST: stomata; EP: Epidermal cell; UT: Unicellular trichome Adaxial epidermis also referred to as upper layer was gotten by scraping the abaxial epidermis (lower layer) of the leaf of each plant, cleared in 2% v/v Sodium hypochlorite and rinsed severally in distilled water. The cleared epidermal tissues were stained with Safranin O and then dehydrated in vials containing 50%, 70% and 100% ethanol successively. This was mounted on microslide with dilute glycerol and viewed under light microscope at ×400 objective lens and photograph was taken using camera phone
